Fort Erie is located where Lake Erie and the Niagara River meet. Fort Erie is one of the largest gateways to the U.S. The Peace Bridge, spanning the Niagara River allows travel from Fort Erie to Buffalo, N.Y. in minutes. It is minutes away from the Buffalo and only 90 minutes from Toronto, not to mention easy access to other Niagara cities and their amenities.
Enjoyed by many walkers and bikers are the Friendship Trail and The Niagara River Recreation Pathway. They extend for miles and are part of the Trans Canada Trail System. Hockey of course is big throughout Fort Erie. The Fort Erie Racetrack, one of Fort Erie’s landmarks hosts the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, and offers free concerts on one of the race days. The Fort Erie National Historic Site on the banks of the Niagara River is also known as Old Fort Erie. As a tourist attraction run by the Niagara Parks Commission, it holds an annual re-enactment of the War of 1812 and daily tours during the summer months.
